Mission Statement:
The media has attempted to erase Janet Jackson from the history books. For over 10 years, we have seen mainstream media outlets disregard, discredit, and demean Janet's accomplishments, impact, and influence.
A few examples:
• Her music and videos being blacklisted by MTV and pop radio. No other pop star has ever had that happen to their work. None in history.
• Janet is the most awarded female artist by the Billboard Music Awards, but all receipts of that has been deleted. Billboard now claims that Taylor Swift is the most awarded female artist of the BBMAs.
• In 2016, Rihanna won the Vanguard award. MTV and other media outlets claimed Rihanna was the youngest recipient at 28. However, Janet was in fact the first black female to win the award in 1990 and remains the youngest recipient at only 24 years old.
• Janet Jackson was declared by Billboard as the 2nd most successful artist of the 90s behind Mariah Carey - with just two studio albums released during the whole decade. Receipts of that? Nowhere to be found.
The latest attempt is a Billboard article listing the 100 greatest award show performances of all time. Janet Jackson was not included AT ALL. One of the greatest entertainers of all time (who helped to create the blueprint for award show performances), completely excluded.
That exclusion inspired this moment. However, this movement is larger than a singular Billboard list. We must stop being passive as a fan community. The media can only continue to disregard Janet’s legacy if we remain complacent.
Make your voice heard. The continued attempt to erase Janet's legacy from the history books is unacceptable! Tell the world, "You can't erase the BLUEPRINT."
